There is no denying that development, speculation and rising costs are pushing people out of Union Square and that’s not right! Union United has been fighting for a Community Benefits Agreement to help stop displacement, give the community a real voice, and ensure that developers like US2 reinvest their profits back into the neighborhood.

US2 recently was awarded the right to buy or take by eminent domain all the development parcels in Union Square. By the end of May, the board of aldermen is being pressured to approve new zoning that would allow US2 to build buildings up to 27 stories. And the only commitment we have from US2 is to discuss “non-monetary benefits” with the Neighborhood Council. We say, not good enough! US2 needs to sign a legally binding commitment to negotiate a real CBA NOW!
