May 29, 2014 | Union United | Leave a comment Union United stands with local business, local jobs, and the opportunity to prosper. There has been another major step toward displacement in Union Square, and it’s time for us to act in support of our neighbors!Last week, some Union Square businesses received information from their landlords and management companies informing them of substantial rent increases. These businesses make up the block that includes G&T Alterations, Living Well, SCOM Services, Somerville Grooves, Red House, India Palace, Machu Picchu, Somerville Cleaners, and Sherman Café and Market. It’s time for us to take action! Join us outside Sherman Market this Friday, May 30 at 8:00 am to demonstrate how these rent increases hurt small, local and immigrant-owned businesses. Get involved, meet some of the affected business owners, and support Union United as we engage with the landlords and the city on this important issue.
